Cross the Pyrenees on an electric bike?

Transpyr Coast to Coast makes it possible. Ideal for anyone looking to experience the Transpyr atmosphere and the Coast to Coast mission on their electric bike. Transpyr C2C has opened the door to this new discipline, which will enable participants to enjoy the unique experience of crossing the Pyrenees coast to coast on their electric bikes. This new formula will lend riders the feeling of completing this prestigious mission, considered one of the world’s top ten MTB adventures, which, from 10-16 June, will bring together 400 cyclists from around the planet for the ninth edition of the race.

The E-Transpyr C2C, for which registration is now open, offer cyclists the chance to take part in this unforgettable adventure and cycle an exclusive route on an electric bike. The race will be run individually and is governed by the same regulations as Transpyr Coast to Coast, with bikes subject to a power limit of 250 watts. It is worth recalling that each of the seven stages of this international event have an average distance of 100 km and an average elevation gain of 2,500 m, and will therefore force participants to administer the use of the pedal assist system. To ensure they will be able to use it for the duration of the course, the organisers will set up a battery recharge point at the second refreshment station. By doing so, the cyclists will be able to prepare their bikes while they enjoy a well-deserved rest before tackling the last stretch of the route.

According to the regulations of this new discipline, the e-bikes may only provide electrical assistance while pedalling. Bikes with mechanisms that activate the motor without pedalling are therefore excluded from participation. The electric assist speed will be limited to 25 km/h.

The rise of electric bikes
The electric bike market continues to grow, with sales approaching 25,000 units in 2015 in Spain and a turnover of almost €36 million. These figures are significantly higher than in previous years and illustrate the popularisation of this type of bike, not only designed for fun rides, but also conceived and manufactured with high-quality parts capable of tackling demanding challenges such as the E-Transpyr C2C.
