Black Forest Marathon 2021: one month later than usual
In 2021, mountain bikers can look forward to their annual highlight again, albeit a month later than before: the Black Forest ULTRA Bike Marathon will take place from 16th to 18th of July 2021 on four routes in the Dreisamtal valley and Upper Black Forest. Due to the currently valid regulations, registration is limited to 500 participants until further notice.
After a break this year due to an exceptional non-corona reason, the ULTRA Bike will take place again next year. One month later than before all mountain bike enthusiasts will get their money's worth again. "After much consideration, weighing and discussion we decided to postpone our event", says Benjamin Rudiger, managing director of Black Forest ULTRA Bike, "because this is how we move outside the breeding and rearing season of the capercaillie. Extensive route changes, which would have been necessary at the old date in June to give the ULTRA Bike a chance for the future, are not feasible - we have thoroughly checked this".
The ULTRA Bike organisation team has intensively used the compulsory break in 2020 due to the approval in order to develop new, future-proof concepts. Starting next year, bikers will be offered only four routes, but with a better differentiated route portfolio: "In the future, we will offer routes with 40 km, 60 km, 80 km and 120 km. Power Track and Marathon will melt together, but the ULTRA will be more "ultra" again in the future", explains Rudiger.
Furthermore, work is being done on hygiene and infection protection concepts to ensure the safety of all participants and helpers. Registration opens on Saturday, 18th of July 2020 and is currently limited to 500 people. Payment will not be made until February, in order to be able to better anticipate further corona developments. Rudiger adds: "If the number of registrations reaches the 500 person limit, you will automatically be put on a waiting list. As soon as the Corona regulations for large events loosen up further, we will raise the limit for registration numbers and then those on the waiting list will get a starting place.
