Austrian MTB-Marathon Champions 2020: Sabine Sommer and Alban Lakata

Last weekend (October 17th-18th, 2020), the Austrian Mountainbike Marathon Championships took place in Bad Goisern (Austria) on Lake Hallstatt. The days before the MTB championships put the organizers to the test, as there was 40 cm of fresh snow two days before the race on the Raschberg at 1400 sea level. Since the weather forecast did not expect the situation to change before the race day, the area around the Raschberg and the Hütteneckalm was removed from the course at short notice. Instead, the elite riders had to complete a 2nd lap in the Weißenbachtal- valley. Despite the change, the athletes were enthusiastic about the selective course and were happy that in this year, which was equally difficult for organizers and athletes, a national championship could be held after all.

In the men's race, the 3-time marathon world champion Alban Lakata from East Tyrol won the national championship. Daniel Geismayer from Vorarlberg took 2nd place ahead of Daniel Federspiel from Tyrol. Fabian Costa (Tyrol) takes the "ungrateful" 4th place in the sprint and with a one second lead over the Styrian Manuel Pliem. In the women's race the podium is in Upper Austrian hands. Sabine Sommer wins before Barbara Mayer and Karoline Neumüller.
