Location

The Brixental - Valley (northern Tyrol, Austria) and the austrian communities of Brixen im Thale, Kirchberg in Tirol und Westendorf are nestled between the Hohen Salve and the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain ranges on the sunny plateau of the Brixental, around 800m above sea level. Nature reserve and top events! Just a few kilometers away from Kitzbühel, relaxation and fun is to be found in Kirchberg! In contrast to many other alpine valleys, the Brixental does not come to a dead end, but is open at both ends. It links to the Inn Valley in the west and to the Kitzbühel area in the east. The Ice Age glaciers caused the valley to form a bowl shape, and the ancient rock formations make for ideal walking terraine. More than 30 mountain lifts in the Kitzbühel Alps allow you to reach the highest places in comfort during the summer months. The Brixental is part of a truly wonderful walkers and cyclists paradise. The Brixental distinguishes itself with a wealth of culture. This is brought to life particularly by the churches and chaples of the three communities of Brixen, Kirchberg and Westendorf, as well as a number of small museums and can be experienced through the many traditional events in the region. "Eating and drinking" as they say in Tyrol, "hold body and soul together". Special traditional recipes are to be found in the many restaurants, inns and mountain guesthouses. Local cuisine is highly prized in the Brixental, but also those who enjoy international food and 'haute cuisine' will also experience the culinary delights of this region. The Kitzalpbike is Austria's biggest mountain bike event in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps. The event tales place in Kirchberg, approx. 6km from Kitzbühel, between Brixen and Kitzbühel in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, on Sea level 837 to 2000 m. The dates for Austria's biggest Mountain Bike-Festival have been set. From June, 26th to July,7th, 2013 it will be time again for the 16th edition of the Kitzalpbike Festival and in 2013 with the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships !! a mega event! Over several days competitors and spectators will experience the fun and excitement of the varied programme of events, all centre around this high tech two wheeler. Action packed competitions, bike shows and entertaining side events round off the program. Some 1500 bikers took part in the KitzAlpBike Festival competitions; 750 competitors lined up for the 16th KitzAlpBike 2011 in Kirchberg, to cover the 4 courses, with some new sections featured, across the Kitzbüheler Alpen. The next edition of the Marathon starts on Saturday, June 29th, 2013. In 5 different race levels, new competitors to World Cup professionals will meet these challenges along single trails, fast steep bends, narrow tracks and courses with any number of panorama views. The start of the marathon is still in the Kirchberger center. It was a crowning moment for the Kitzbüheler Alpen: at the first attempt to apply to hold a major event, the KitzAlpBike Marathon won the bid to host the UCI MTB Marathon World Championships in 2013 in Kirchberg.

The KitzAlpBike MTB Marathon (WC) is a real challenge for all athletes. In 5 different race levels, amateurs and professional rders will meet these challenges along single trails, fast steep bends, narrow tracks and courses with any number of panorama views. The light course has been specifically set to suit newcomers to this competitive level of mountain biking. Around 600 m altitude difference will be scaled over this 15 km course. The Medium / Medium Plus Course is characterised by a long climb and demanding descents, this 35/50 km long medium course with 1300/2300 m altitude difference is a great challenge for ambitious mountain bikers. The Extreme-Course: technically demanding and physically challenging - that is the 56 kilometre Extreme-course with more than 2700 metres altitude difference to cover. And finally the Ultra Course with highly technical trails, speedy downhill rides and unholy passages are what give this 95 kilometre long Ultra course covering 4400 metres alitude difference its reputation - Ultra Hard!

Side Events 2012

Thanks to the World Championships in summer 2013, the Brixental valley will be in the focus of the bike scene for two weeks. The KitzAlpBike Festival will start with the Hillclimb in Brixen im Thale on 26th June: “Last year we had 350 participants, maybe next year we will be able to overcome this number. Part of this competition will be again the ‚KitzAlpBike ladylike‘ campaign for all sporty women.”, explains the chairman. Kitzbühel, the city of sports, will be joint organiser again and will hold the Bike Fashion and Trail Night on Friday, 28th June. Saturday, 29th June, will be all dedicated to the UCI Mtb Marathon World Championships. The World Championships with start in Kirchberg lead from Kirchberg via Brixen and Westendorf to Kitzbühel and back to Kirchberg and are a logistic and organisational challenge for the team and the numerous volunteers: “The workgroups are operating at full stretch“, explains chairman Max Salcher in the course of the meeting and seizes the opportunity to thank all the land owners and mayors. “It is great to have a valley like the Brixental which keeps together like that.”

Scarcely one week later, on 5th July, the Windautaler Radlrallye (bike rallye in the Windautal valley), a new event of the KitzAlpBike Festival, takes place: “It’s a competition for everybody which is the great possibility to present the jewel Windautal valley to the public.”, says Salcher.

Under the slogan “Biking for everyone” Westendorf combines the sporty aspects of mountain biking with the cosiness and the culinary aspects of the Kitzbühel Alps. The bike rallye consists of two disciplins, which mean either sporty challenge or relaxing trip: The sprint race challenges the participants with 15 kilometres, 300 metres in altitude and loads of turns. Starting point is the centre of Westendorf – finish is at the popular inn „Gamskogelhütte“ at the southern end of Windautal valley.The ones who prefer easy bike tours are right at the second competition. In the traffic-calmed valley the participants of the “titbit rallye” have enough time to run through the delicacies of the Windautal valley. The local landlords offer different regional treats and good music.

The following Saturday is dedicated to the traditional Cross Country competitions in Kirchberg for elite and juniors, Sunday belongs to the kids.

Licenced mountain bike professionals born in and after 1983 will only be allowed to compete in the Ultra-marathon (UCI C1)! Licenced riders will be split into the following heats: Elite: Men & women born in or before 1989 / Master: Men born in or before 1982

Closing Date and Late Entries
The official closing date for the four Marathon courses is Wednesday 27th June 2012 at 00:00. Marathon racers can apply online until this date. Late entries are possible - however not online: at the car park of the Fleckalmbahn in Kirchberg / Klausen.

Time keeping at the Marathon is provided by and controlled by "Datasport".
Before the Race: the transponder will be distributed along with the start number at the start / finish line at the Fleckalmbahn in Kirchberg / Klausen prior to the race. No deposit is necessary.

Collection times are as follows: Friday, 29.06.2012 from 12:00 to 18:00 and Saturday, 30.06.2012 from 06:00 to 07:00. At the end of the race the transponder must be returned to the race office. Riders who have not completed the race must also return their transponder before 19:00 on Saturday 30.06.2012 um 19:00. If lost, or the transponder in not returned for any reason, a charge of € 50,- will be levied by the organiser

The long distances of the Marathon not only push the athletes to their limits, but also demand a certain level of equipment and accessories. The organisers of this event recommend that all mmountain bikes be fully serviced prior to the race (function test, brakes..) and the following equipment be provided by each competitor: at least two spare inner tubes, Pump, Tools, Allen keys, Chain repare kit, at least two 0,75l drink bottles, plenty of energy food (cereal bars, fruit sugar sweets, gels). We also recommend that a mobile phone be carried for emergencies. Emergency and KitzAlpBike- numbers will be given out at the event.
