| The 13th Salzkammergut Trophy will take place on July 17, 2010. The Junior Trophy will be held on Sunday July 16th. With more than 3000 participants from 25 nations the Salzkammergut Trophy is Austria's biggest MTB marathon. The big loop leads through the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Region Dachstein-Hallstatt and is regarded as one of the most spectacular marathon tracks in Europe! Besides four courses with various distances the participants may expect a huge supporting programme - a Junior Trophy, bike safety course for children, bike expo, pasta party, live concert, film presentation, and for the first time a downhill competition for unicyclists! Visitors may enjoy the helicopter shuttle service to the Hütteneckalm as well as live broadcasting in the finishing area and on the internet. Since years, the organization aims to enthuse newcomers for the mountain bike sport. There are various course lengths suitable for any ability. The time limits are set in such a way that no one has to quit the race, even when going less than 10 km per hour. Numerous refreshment stops along the course will recharge your battery and at the finishing line a quick regeneration is guaranteed by a team of masseurs. No matter if one tackles the 26,6 km beginner's marathon (670 meters in altitude), the 53,1 km (1663 m change in altitude) course or the 109,7 km (3582 m change in altitude) distance - at the finishing line every finisher will be celebrated like a winner and all starters have the same chance of winning the first prize! After the winners' ceremony all attendees participate in a tombola with prizes worth more than € 6500,-! | |

The Salzkammergut dedicated the extreme course to all "Adrenalin Junkies"! More than 200 kilometres and an incredible 7.006 meters change in altitude - this is the Salzkammergut's extreme distance and also Europe's toughest Mountain Bike Marathon! With a drop out rate up to 50 % this course is even daunting for such die-hards like Gerrit Glomser, Wolfgang Fasching, Stefan Danowski or Tinker Juarez. Besides great physical shape it demands above all huge technical skills. Last come, first served! The Slow Motion Rating adds up the times of all bikers of a team. Therefore the three teams being the slowest in total are winning the prizes. This is an advantage for those teams who have many participants in the race, who drive the longest courses and reach the finishing line just before the time limit is in effect. Prizes worth more than Euro 15.000,- are waiting for the winners!
Edition 2010: MTB Course runs across the salt mountain of Hallstatt: it is now winter season in the Ski Resort Dachstein West and the highest points of the Trophy track are covered with more than 6 feet (2 meters) of snow. However the preparations for Austria's biggest MTB Marathon on July 17th are already going strong. Here the latest news to be revealed:
| After the long section along Lake Hallstatt the course will not lead anymore to the Echern Valley, instead it will climb a narrow path with 13 serpentines - a former cart trail built in the mid 19th century leading to the oldest salt mines in the World! The trail passes the famous Hallstatt necropolis where archaeologists believe that there are more than 4.000 graves dating back to the Iron Age (800 - 400 B.C.). From this point one has a breathtaking view of the lake and the surrounding mountain range. This area is easy accessible by the cable car so many spectators will cheer for the bikers during the mountains classification. The steepest part of this trail passes directly the miners' refuge and has a 30 % incline! The course leads then again to the forest road towards Roßalm. | |

Additional special distances for the Juniors: besides the four well established and popular courses of 209, 110, 53 and 27 kilometers there will be an additional distance of 36 kilometers! This course is designed especially for our Juniors as they must not bike longer than two hours according to the Austrian Cycling Federation regulations. So far 17 and 18 year old bikers were not able to participate at the Trophy with more than 53 km and the 27 km distance was not a real challenge for most bikers of this age group! Therefore there will be only one age group for U17 on the 27 km distance. However there is going to be a "open classification" on both courses for all "seniors".
On Saturday, kids and teenagers from age five to sixteen are able to gain their first race experience at the Junior Trophy. According to their age group, the youngsters will tackle a course from 1.000 meters up to the demanding 18 km. The courses are carefully selected and well adapted for the respective age groups. Every year more and more kids participate and last year there were more than 200 enthusiastic young bikers at the starting line in Gosau Hintertal. During the winner's ceremony, the bike crazy crowd provides a great atmosphere celebrating the future stars like the big ones. www.trophy.at/junior

| New! Limited number of participants: since in the past two years the numbers of participants have virtually exploded, there will be for the first time a limit regarding the number of bikers. This year there were 1.492 bikers registered for the 110 km distance and even 1.559 bikers tackled the 53 km course. We have the feeling that those popular courses can not handle any increase of participants and therefore both distances will be limited to 1.500 bikers. There are plenty starting positions available regarding the other distances! Registration possible as of now! Gary Fisher will be at the Salzkammergut Trophy again! During the 2009 Salzkammergut Trophy Gary Fisher received a pair of "Goiserer”* as a present which he has not collected yet! Well it's time to pick them up - so on July 18, 2009 he will not only come for another shoe fitting but also try to improve his time on the 110 km course! 2009 will be his last year in the "age group Masters 4”. Although Gary may not be one of the top favourites, he will be for sure part of the winners' ceremony presenting the Trophies to the winners of the 110 and the 209 km distances! Still you do not need to win a Trophy to meet Gary - Gary Fisher's newest bikes are presented at the expo area on Friday and Saturday and Gary is more than happy giving autographs to his numerous fans. Courses: Course A 206,3 km: Euro 75,- | |
