CROCODILE TROPHY

Crocodile Trophy Adventure: 10 days no telefon, no newspaper, no TV, no bad news. You don’t want to struggle on a mountainbike but you would like to enjoy the unforgetable feeling of a Croccole Trophy? No problem – just book the “Crocodile Trophy Adventure Holidays”! You will be part of the longest and hardest mountainbike-stagerace, discovering areas of Australia which are partly closed for tourists and you will come home with impressions from a unique Adventure Holidays. During the race you spend the nights same as all the particpants in tents but you will cover the race distance in a Fourwheel Drive vehicle (max, four people incl. driver – per vehicle). Each participants has to take out a travel insurance (return transport) himself. We garantie a unforgetable time in one of the most fascinating parts of our world. During the Crocodile Trophy sightseeing tours will be organized away from the race course. Cairns, where the raid starts, is the Gateway to Far North Queensland and to the Great Barriere Reef. With 130.000 residents has Cairns everything what usually only big multiculturel cities can offer. A large modere marina is the showpiece of the town. The Esplanade with a wonderful swimmingpool small Bistro’s, Café’s and Hostals is the colorfull heart of the city. The northerly beaches probably are the most beautiful one’s in Australia.

The 16. Crocodile Trophy 2010: Stars align
 - Last year's podium getters call for revenge
Less than two months before the 16th Crocodile Trophy kicks off, this year's favourites begin to emerge: with the top three finishers from last year participating, the attendance of Estonian super star Jaan Kirsipuu has just been confirmed. Summoning big names from the road biking scene is a bit of a tradition at the hardest mountain bike stage race in the world. For this year's line-up between 19th and 28th October, Tour de France stage winner Jaan Kirsipuu has been announced. The elevenfold Estonian champion has worn both yellow and green jerseys at the Tour de France in recent years and in 2010 wants to add the leader jersey of the Crocodile Trophy to his collection. In 2009 he already demonstrated that he is a serious off-road contender as well – that year the now 40 year old won the Estonian Marathon Championships. He will be accompanied by his countryman  Allan Oras the European Marathon Champion from 2009.

However, the challenge is not an easy one, especially considering this year's impressive line-up of „Croc-old hands“. Looks like the top three finishers from last year, World Championship Bronze medallist Urs Huber (SUI), Olympic champion Bart Brentjens (NED) and the young Belgian Mike Mulkens are calling for revenge. Especially „Sir Bart“ hopes for more luck at his second attempt to claim the overall Croc Trophy win, after missing out by only 1:20 minutes in 2009. Titleholder Urs Huber, on the other hand, has already seven marathon victories under his belt in 2010 and trusts in his top form.

There will be a team Classification with 3 riders, same Outfit and an Individual classification. The Crocodile Trophy is open to males and females who have reached the age of 18 years at 20.10.2009. Assistance during the race (food, drinks and material) from unofficial persons is forbidden (exceptions are possible with prior approval or in emergency). Unofficial vehicles or motorcycles are not allowed in the race. It will be handled as a grave offence!!! The team or support vehicle are allowed during some of the stages (announcement before each stage) to feed their riders at the official depots only. Before the start of each stage all support vehicles have to go straight to the first depot. So they have to leave the starting area before the start of each stage! After feeding the vehicle has to drive immediately to the next depot or to the finish. Competitors who accept support from unofficial vehicle or person will be punished.

Individual and overall classification according to times: Adding up time of all stages. Disqualified riders who have exceeded the time control will be excluded from the classification. Identical times: The lowest number of all rankings will be considered. Equality In case of equality the better ranking of the last stage will be considered.

Overall team classification according to time: Adding up the total time of the 3 riders in a team per stage. Adding up the total time of all stages. (Team: 3 riders, same jersey and bike short). Each rider gets a sports bag (size 85 x 30 x 45 cm) with the starting number. We only transport this sport bag, camping equipment and spare wheels! Please note we don’t accept bike cases and boxes during the race. A truck will bring all the things you don’t use during the event from Cairns to the hotel in Cape Tribulation! Please take only the absolute necessary belongings with you.

URS HUBER (SWISS) WINS EDITION 2009

Dutchman Bart Brentjens admitted to feeling a little empty at race end, a feeling that isn’t un-usual after ten days of non-stop effort.  At Cape Tribulation, the Olympic and World Cham-pion repeated his vow to return, with the aim of going one step higher on the final podium. “It’s always a sad feeling actually, you’ve been rid-ing your bike for ten days, then all of a sudden it’s all over,” Brentjens said. “Next year I will come back.”  Race winner Urs Huber, who has maintained an iceman like concentration during much of the race, couldn’t stop smiling as the peloton rolled into Cape Tribulation. The Swiss cyclist is eager to return to the event and while next year his focus will be on winning a World Marathon Championship, a return to the Crocodile Trophy at some point in the future is likely.  “It’s really a great feeling, and to arrive at the finish here at beautiful Cape Tribulation is great,” Huber said. “It was really a great place where the race was, the first stage was the best.”
