A total of more than 250 kilometres and about 10,000 metres of elevation gain have to be mastered! Although the race will take place on new stages, the format remains the same. Like this year, every single competitor also has the chance to register for a team of four. In addition, the special mix of pros and amateurs will also survive. In addition, the price stays affordable. € 299.00 for each biker is equivalent for the well-known top starter package. The registration is about to open end of November.

Following the first stage, the leading participant is awarded classification jerseys, which he/ she is required to wear during the subsequent stage. Analogously, this applies to each of the ensuing stages, where by the jerseys may only be worn by the current leaders in their respective categories.

Additional to the single categories there is the possibility for a team score. Every particpant can be a member of a team. A team will be in the ranking if minimum four participants are in the team. Teams with more than four participants: the top four of each stage will be in the overall ranking of the team. There is no classification within the team score! The 3 best teams in the team overall ranking get material prizes.

A participant briefings will be held each evening (in the context of the pasta party) prior to and every morning immediately before the start of a stage. It is the objective of these briefings to call the participants’ attention to the characteristics and peculiarities of each upcoming stage, in particular danger areas and hazards. Briefings will be held by the race director and participation by all is strongly advised.  Time is recorded individually for each participant and relies on a personalized transponder system. A transponder is a microelectronic chip, which measures time of a particular participant electronically on every stage. The transponder has to be mounted and carried on the bike according to instruction and on all stages, and needs to be returned after the conclusion of the race at a designated race office. If, for whatever reason, a transponder were to go missing or become defective, the affected participant would receive a substitute but would also be expected to pay for the lost transponder. There are up to three check points on each stage, the location of which remains unknown to racers beforehand, but where all riders need to report jointly to have the bar codes on their numbered bibs scanned and times taken. A penalty of 60 minutes will be added to a rider’s time at the stage finish, for each check point, which he or she thereof did not report at. Analogous to check point procedures, the bar codes on the starting numbers of the rider will be scanned jointly and reported for the calculation of the stage rankings and overall placement.

RISULTS  2010 - EDITION

Christoph Sauser claims 2010 CRAFT BIKE TRANS GERMANY powered by NISSAN title / Mennen victorious on final stage / Brandau wins ladies’ category

Christoph Sauser (SUI) from Specialized Factory Racing has clinched the victory at the 2010 CRAFT BIKE TRANS GERMANY powered by NISSAN. The former Marathon World Champion indeed crossed the finish line as third today (2:23:37.1), right behind of Robert Mennen (GER, 2:23:34.8) and Alban Lakata (AUT, 2:23:35.8), who both celebrated a 1-2 punch for Topeak Ergon Racing on the leg from Sonthofen to Bregenz. But in the end, the lead of 1:50 minutes, which the Swiss rider had gained on Lakata over the last four days, was enough to hold back his strongest contender for the 2010 title. Lakata thus had to settle for second. Christian Schneidawind from Texpa Simplon, who came in as eighth (2:25:01.9) defended his third rank in the overall standings.

The decision about the win at the last 74.50 kilometres long stage and its 1,365 metres in altitude, which had an edgy and fidgety character, mainly leading downwards than upwards – despite the 15 kilometre climb to Riedbergpass – took place in the last third of the routing, right after the best climber classifier before Buch. In the last part of the climb, the small group of Sauser, Lakata and Mennen broke away. An attack, which finally paid off. “I’m so stoked,” said Robert Mennen after his first Trans Germany stage win; especially as he had to burry all hopes for his set goal to finish in the top-5 of the overall ranking when an upset stomach made him suffer big times at the second stage. “That’s the reason why I definitely wanted to win a stage.”

Sauser a worthy champion
Due to the attack to bring home the stage win for Topeak Ergon Racing, the bearer of the Yellow Jersey had to find the right answer. So did Christoph Sauser: “I had to watch out the whole day as there also was the duel for the third overall rank between Christian (Schneidawind) and Thomas (Dietsch). And as Alban (Lakata) always held the pace I also had to do so.” According to this, “Susi” was all smiles. “On the one hand as it was my first stage race win for a long time. And on the other hand as it was the first big triumph on a 29er bike. It was a lot of fun,” explained the 34-years-old from Sigriswil, who needed the total time of 10:23:38.4 hours for the four days of racing over 286.13 kilometres and 7,212 metres in altitude.

Elisabeth Brandau successful on ladies’ side

The fastest woman in the field, Elisabeth Brandau from Team Haibike, sat about one and a half hour longer in the saddle in order to secure her 2010 Trans Germany title. The Schönaich resident, who celebrated her third stage win today in 2:38:49.7 hours, pedalled all the way from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Bregenz in 11:54:02.5 hours, earning the Red Jersey for being the number one lady. Today, the 24-years-old relegated Birgit Söllner from Firebike-Drössiger (2:43:54.7) and Switzerland’s Milena Landtwing from Rothaus-Cube MTB (3:01:51.7) to second and third respectively; right the same running order of the ladies’ overall table. According to her again strong performance, Brandau said in the finish area right at the famous lake stage of Bregenz: “I’m more than pleased with the result. I never expected this. I’m happy that I was a strong competition for Pia (Sundstedt), who unfortunately had to quit the race due to injury.”

Johann Grasegger keeps hold on title

Finishing third today, the bearer of the Blue Jersey for the fastest master rider Johann Grasegger was able to close the deal of successfully defending the 2009 Trans Germany title. The Team Garmisch-Partenkirchen pilot mastered the 75 kilometres from Sonthofen to Bregenz in 2:29:33.6 hours.  Due to this, he only had to give in to Christian Pösl (Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, 2:27:34.2), who lost all chances of bringing home the title on the second day when a flat tyre cost him more than 30 minutes and to overall master runner-up Heinz Zörweg (AUT, 2:29:32.2). Erik Evers (BEL) from MTB Rudi was the third rider to complete the overall ranking of the master category. “I never thought of being able to repeat my last year’s win,” said Grasegger. “But the first day brought the decision when a lot of people over paced facing rough weather conditions. But I fought it out and got rewarded for it.”

Senior Master Milan Spolc also with title repeat
It almost has been another clean title sweep but on the last stage, the body and the rear switchgear didn’t work out as Milan Spolc (CZE) wanted them to do. But the second rank today (2:40:08.1) and an overall lead of about 28 minutes were equal to his second consecutive Trans Germany title. Meanwhile, Ferdinand Ganser celebrated his first stage win at Germany’s possibly biggest mountain bike stage race. The Craft-Rocky-Mountain rider crossed the finish line after 2:37:50.2 hours thus also jumping on the runner-up spot in the final senior master ranking. Today’s third was Urs Güntensperger (SUI, 3:03:38) from Büli Bike Tigers, third in the overall ranking became Ad van De Sande (NED) from Team Ventoux Tilburg.
