GRANFONDO CHARLY GAUL
| |
| The idea to organize a bike race in Trento (ITALY) was conceived in October 2005 when the great Charly Gaul (who then died the following December) had accepted an invitation to Bondone, Trento’s mountain made famous by the epic venture on his bicycle in June 1956: a time when the people of Bondone (tour operators and the mountain’s residents) had wanted to dedicate the climb from the city gates to the Vason resort to him. The people of Bondone’s initiative provoked such a stir in Luxembourg that the national television station RTL sent a journalist who came up with the idea: why not relive that amazing performance that went down in cycling history with an international gathering for cycling enthusiasts?… and the idea became reality in just a few months, accompanied by general enthusiasm. Here we are now in the fourth year with a new route, finishing with the legendary Charly Gaul climb, decisive “steep slope” also in the 89th Giro d’Italia. | |
